Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Paro – Exploration of Paro Dzong and Town

Upon your arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by our local representative, who will assist with your transfer to your hotel. After some time to freshen up and relax, you’ll set out in the afternoon to visit the Rinpung Dzong, a stunning example of traditional Bhutanese architecture. This fortress-monastery, perched on a hill overlooking the Paro Valley, has a rich history and serves as both a religious and administrative center. You’ll explore its intricate carvings, prayer halls, and courtyards, while learning about its significance in Bhutanese culture. Afterward, enjoy a leisurely evening stroll through Paro town, where you can browse local handicrafts, visit small shops, and take in the atmosphere of this charming valley town. As the sun sets, return to your hotel for a restful overnight stay.

Day 2Drive to Haa Valley – Cultural Immersion in Rural Bhutan

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to the beautiful Haa Valley, one of Bhutan’s most isolated and serene valleys, located west of Paro. As you journey along winding mountain roads, you will pass through quaint villages and terraced farmlands, offering a glimpse into the traditional rural lifestyle of Bhutan. Along the way, stop at Chele La Pass, the highest motorable pass in Bhutan, to take in the panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. Once in Haa Valley, visit ancient monasteries like the Lhakhang Karpo (White Temple) and Lhakhang Nagpo (Black Temple), steeped in local legends and spiritual significance. The valley itself is relatively untouched by modernity, providing a peaceful retreat into Bhutanese village life. In the evening, you’ll stay in a cozy local guesthouse, where you’ll experience warm Bhutanese hospitality and home-cooked meals.

Day 3Trek from Haa Valley to Saga La – Mountain Meadows and Forests

Today marks the start of your trekking adventure. After breakfast, you will begin your hike from Haa Valley to Saga La, ascending through picturesque meadows and forested trails. The trek offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, as well as a chance to immerse yourself in Bhutan’s pristine natural beauty. Along the way, you’ll pass through small yak herder settlements, lush meadows, and forests of rhododendron and fir. Keep an eye out for native wildlife such as Himalayan pheasants, blue sheep, and golden langurs. As you climb higher, the air becomes cooler, and the landscape opens up to provide breathtaking views of the distant peaks. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at your campsite near Saga La, where you can unwind and enjoy the tranquility of the mountains. Overnight in a tented camp under the stars.

Day 4Trek from Saga La to Paro – Scenic Descent

Wake up to the crisp mountain air and enjoy breakfast amidst the peaceful surroundings. Today’s trek takes you from Saga La back towards Paro, descending through forested ridges adorned with colorful prayer flags fluttering in the breeze. The trail offers magnificent views of the Himalayan ranges and the surrounding valleys, as well as the sacred Mount Jomolhari in the distance. You will pass through more dense forests, with a mix of pine, oak, and rhododendron trees, before gradually reaching the lower altitudes. By late afternoon, you will return to Paro, where you can relax at your hotel and enjoy a warm meal. Overnight in a comfortable hotel in Paro.

Day 5Drive to Thimphu – Sightseeing in Bhutan’s Capital

This morning, set off on a scenic drive from Paro to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Upon arrival, you’ll explore some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the majestic Tashichho Dzong, a grand fortress that houses the throne room and offices of the King of Bhutan. You’ll also visit the Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in honor of the third king of Bhutan, where you’ll witness locals offering prayers and spinning prayer wheels. In the afternoon, you may also explore Buddha Dordenma, a massive golden Buddha statue that overlooks the city and provides spectacular views of the surrounding valley. Return to your hotel for the evening. Overnight stay in a hotel in Thimphu.

Day 6Trek from Thimphu to Phajoding Monastery – Camping under the Stars

After breakfast, you will embark on a scenic trek from Thimphu to the remote Phajoding Monastery, a spiritual retreat perched high above the city. The trail takes you through dense forests of pine and juniper trees, offering fresh air and stunning views of the Thimphu valley below. As you ascend, you’ll pass several small temples and prayer flags along the way. Upon reaching the monastery, which sits at an elevation of approximately 3,600 meters, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. After exploring the monastery and learning about its spiritual significance, you’ll set up camp nearby. Spend the evening under the stars, surrounded by the peace and quiet of the Himalayas. Overnight in camp near Phajoding Monastery.

Day 7Trek over Labana Pass – Descend to Punakha

Today’s trek takes you further into the Himalayas, as you cross the Labana Pass at an altitude of 4,200 meters. The pass offers some of the most breathtaking views of the Bhutanese Himalayas, with snow-capped peaks stretching as far as the eye can see. After enjoying the stunning scenery at the pass, you’ll begin your descent towards the subtropical valley of Punakha, passing through alpine meadows, forests, and small settlements. As you descend into lower altitudes, the climate becomes warmer and the landscape transitions to fertile farmlands and terraced rice paddies. By evening, you’ll arrive in Punakha, where you’ll check into your hotel for a relaxing night. Overnight in a hotel in Punakha.

Day 8Explore Punakha Dzong and Hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten

After breakfast, you will visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most impressive fortresses, located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. The dzong is known for its intricate woodwork, towering whitewashed walls, and serene courtyards. After exploring the dzong, you’ll enjoy a scenic hike to the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a stunning hilltop chorten built to bring peace and prosperity to Bhutan. The hike takes you through terraced fields and offers panoramic views of the surrounding valley. Return to your hotel in Punakha for a restful evening. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 9Drive to Wangdue Phodrang – Rural Exploration

Today, you will travel to Wangdue Phodrang, a district known for its beautiful rural landscapes and traditional Bhutanese architecture. You’ll spend the day exploring the valley’s charming villages, ancient temples, and scenic countryside. Take the opportunity to interact with local villagers and gain insight into their way of life, which remains largely unchanged by modernity. You may also visit the ruins of Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, a historic fortress that was destroyed by fire but still holds cultural and historical significance. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and stunning views of the surrounding hills. Overnight stay in a hotel in Wangdue Phodrang.

Day 10Return to Paro – Farewell Dinner

On your final day in Bhutan, you will drive back to Paro, enjoying the scenic landscapes along the way. Upon arrival, you’ll have some free time to explore Paro town one last time, perhaps picking up some souvenirs or revisiting your favorite spots. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with your fellow travelers, reflecting on the incredible journey you’ve experienced in Bhutan. Afterward, return to your hotel for a final night in Paro. The next morning, you will be transferred to Paro International Airport for your departure flight, bidding farewell to the enchanting Kingdom of Bhutan.
