The Gokyo Valley Trekking offers stunning views of the Everest region, including the Ngozumpa Glacier and Gokyo Lakes. This off-the-beaten-path trek provides close-up views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu from Gokyo Ri (5,357m).
Starting in Kathmandu, you’ll explore the city’s rich cultural heritage before flying to Lukla to begin the trek. As you hike through Sherpa villages and serene valleys, you’ll experience the warmth of local hospitality and breathtaking scenery. The trek culminates at Gokyo Ri, offering a panoramic view of the highest peaks in the world.

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our Journey Junction representative and transferred to your hotel. After freshening up from your journey, you will be invited to our office for a detailed briefing about your trekking itinerary. You will also meet your trekking guide and discuss the required equipment and trekking permits. If you arrive late at night, this briefing will take place the following morning after breakfast.

Start the day with an exciting 40-minute flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, one of the most scenic and adventurous airstrips in the world. Upon arrival, meet your trekking crew and begin the trek. The trail takes you through lush green landscapes, traditional Sherpa villages, and suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River before reaching Phakding. For those interested, an optional visit to a nearby monastery can be arranged.

Today’s trek follows the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several suspension bridges, including the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge. Passing through charming villages like Benkar and Monjo, we enter Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A final steep ascent rewards us with the first stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam before reaching Namche Bazaar, the main hub of the Khumbu region.

To adjust to the altitude, we take a rest day in Namche while staying active. Options include:
Leaving Namche, we follow an undulating trail offering spectacular views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. After passing Kayangjuma and Sansa, we ascend to Mong La Pass (3,975m) before descending to the Dudh Koshi River. A final ascent through rhododendron forests leads us to Phorse Village, a serene settlement beneath Tawoche and Cholaste peaks.

Today’s trek takes us through diverse landscapes where we may spot musk deer, mountain goats, and pheasants. The trail ascends past Dole and Lhabarma, offering breathtaking views of Cho Oyu, Thamserku, and Kangtega before arriving at Machhermo, a picturesque village known for a legendary Yeti sighting in 1974.

The trail climbs past Pangka (4,480m) before reaching the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest in Nepal. We pass a series of stunning turquoise lakes, including Longpongo and Taboche Tsho, before reaching the main Gokyo Lake (Dudh Pokhari) beside the village of Gokyo.

Early morning ascent to Gokyo Ri, a spectacular viewpoint offering panoramic sunrise views of Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, and the entire Gokyo Valley. Later, an optional hike leads to Scoundrel’s Viewpoint and Fifth Lake for mesmerizing views of Everest’s northern face and the world’s largest glacier, Ngozumpa Glacier.

Retracing our steps, we descend past the Gokyo Lakes and Ngozumpa Glacier, enjoying different perspectives of Cholatse, Taboche, and Thamserku peaks before arriving in Dole.

A scenic descent through rhododendron forests brings us to Phortse Tenga, followed by a gentle uphill to Mong La, where we get final glimpses of Ama Dablam, Everest, and Tengboche Monastery before arriving in Namche Bazaar.

The final trekking day involves a steep descent past Monjo and Phakding before reaching Lukla, where we celebrate our incredible journey with the trekking crew.

An early morning flight to Kathmandu, followed by a free day for shopping, sightseeing, or relaxation. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner hosted by Journey Junction.

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward journey. Our team will bid you farewell, hoping to welcome you again for another adventure in Nepal!
