Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Gangtok

Your adventure begins with your arrival in Gangtok, the bustling capital of Sikkim. Nestled at an altitude of 5,410 feet, this hill station greets you with its pleasant climate and breathtaking views of the Eastern Himalayas. Upon arrival, take the day to acclimatize to the altitude and immerse yourself in Gangtok’s rich cultural tapestry. Stroll through MG Marg, the vibrant heart of the city, filled with cafes, shops, and local crafts. Visit the Enchey Monastery, an important pilgrimage site, and soak in the spiritual ambiance. Don’t miss tasting Sikkimese delicacies like momos, thukpa, and gundruk soup at a local restaurant.

Day 2Gangtok to Lachen (Approx. 120 km, 6-7 hours)

After breakfast, set off on a scenic drive towards Lachen, a picturesque mountain village perched at 9,000 feet. Along the way, you’ll stop at the Tashi Viewpoint, offering panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga range on a clear day. As you continue, you’ll pass the magnificent Seven Sisters Waterfalls cascading down the rocky cliffs, a perfect spot for some photography. The journey also takes you through quaint hamlets, cardamom plantations, and pristine forests. Arrive in Lachen by evening, and take in the serene surroundings of this remote village. Overnight stay in a cozy guesthouse.

Day 3Lachen to Jakthang (Trek: Approx. 8-9 km, 4-5 hours)

Today marks the start of your trekking adventure. After a hearty breakfast, leave Lachen and begin your trek towards Jakthang. The trail meanders through dense forests of rhododendron and conifer trees, filling the air with a fresh, earthy aroma. The route also offers opportunities for birdwatching, as you may spot rare species like the blood pheasant or the Himalayan monal. As you trek higher, the forest gives way to alpine meadows with stunning views of snow-capped peaks. Reach Jakthang by afternoon and set up camp amidst the tranquil surroundings.

Day 4Jakthang to Yabuk (Trek: Approx. 8 km, 4-5 hours)

Today’s trek takes you deeper into the mountains as you make your way toward Yabuk. The trail gradually becomes steeper, and you’ll notice a shift in the vegetation as you enter the alpine zone. The vibrant greenery of the lower forests transforms into rugged terrain dominated by shrubs and moss. The trek offers sweeping views of the surrounding valleys and the towering Himalayan giants in the distance. Arrive at Yabuk, a remote campsite, where the crisp mountain air and the starry night sky create a perfect atmosphere for relaxation.

Day 5Yabuk to Green Lake Base Camp (Trek: Approx. 10 km, 5-6 hours)

Embark on one of the most exhilarating stretches of your trek as you head towards the Green Lake Base Camp. The trail becomes increasingly rugged as you approach higher altitudes. Along the way, you’ll cross glacial streams and walk through high-altitude meadows carpeted with wildflowers. As you near the base camp, the majestic Kanchenjunga comes into view, its snow-clad peaks glowing in the sunlight. Arrive at Green Lake, a serene glacial lake surrounded by towering mountains. Set up camp at the base and marvel at the beauty of the emerald waters reflecting the snow-covered peaks.

Day 6Rest and Exploration at Green Lake

Spend the day exploring the enchanting Green Lake area. Take a walk around the shores of the lake, which offers stunning reflections of the surrounding peaks like Siniolchu and Simvo. This remote location provides ample opportunities for photography, as the ever-changing light transforms the landscape throughout the day. For the adventurous, there’s an optional short hike to higher vantage points, offering even more spectacular views of the Kanchenjunga range. In the afternoon, relax by the lake, taking in the peaceful ambiance of this untouched wilderness.

Day 7Green Lake to Yabuk (Trek: Approx. 10 km, 4-5 hours)

After a serene morning at Green Lake, begin your descent back to Yabuk. Retracing your steps, you’ll pass through the same stunning landscapes, but the change in light and direction offers a new perspective. Enjoy the breathtaking views and the silence of the pristine wilderness as you trek back to the familiar campsite at Yabuk. The descent is easier, allowing you to savor the beauty of the surroundings at a more relaxed pace. Overnight in tents at Yabuk.

Day 8Yabuk to Jakthang (Trek: Approx. 8 km, 4-5 hours)

Continue your descent from Yabuk to Jakthang, passing through alpine meadows and forests rich with wildlife. Keep an eye out for mountain goats, or perhaps even a red panda if you’re lucky. The trail offers a blend of stunning natural scenery and opportunities for wildlife spotting, making for an enjoyable and rewarding day. Arrive in Jakthang and settle in for your last night in the wilderness, surrounded by the sounds of nature.

Day 9Jakthang to Lachen (Trek: Approx. 8-9 km, 4-5 hours)

Your final day of trekking takes you back to Lachen, where your journey began. As you descend through the rhododendron forests and alpine landscapes, take time to reflect on the incredible journey you’ve had through the remote regions of Sikkim. Arrive in Lachen by afternoon and enjoy some well-deserved rest in the comfort of a guesthouse. Take the evening to explore the village, visit the Lachen Monastery, or simply relax and soak in the tranquil atmosphere.

Day 10Lachen to Gangtok (Drive: Approx. 120 km, 6-7 hours)

After breakfast, drive back to Gangtok, retracing your scenic route through the mountains. Enjoy the last glimpses of the Sikkimese countryside, with its terraced fields, waterfalls, and forested hills. Arrive in Gangtok by afternoon and spend your evening at leisure. You can visit local markets for souvenirs or enjoy a quiet evening at a café, reminiscing about your trekking adventure through Sikkim’s untouched beauty. Overnight stay in Gangtok.
