The Kanchenjunga Express Trek is a fast-paced, high-altitude Himalayan adventure that takes you deep into one of Nepal’s most remote and majestic trekking regions. Starting in Kathmandu, you’ll acclimate and prepare for the journey ahead. A scenic helicopter or fixed-wing flight brings you to Ghunsa, a traditional Sherpa village nestled among soaring peaks, where you’ll explore Tashichhoeling Monastery and visit nearby Phale for an authentic Tibetan cultural experience.
The trek then heads north through alpine terrain to Kambachen, offering unforgettable views of Janu Peak and glacial valleys. Continuing on, you’ll reach Lhonak, a breathtaking meadow ringed by 6,000m and 7,000m mountains, and then trek to Pangpema (5,100m), the Kanchenjunga North Base Camp, where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the world’s third-highest peak and surrounding giants.
After a night under the stars, you’ll return via the same route, pausing for one last night in Lhonak before trekking back to Ghunsa, where a helicopter whisks you back to Kathmandu. A scenic contingency day is included to explore Bhaktapur and Changu Narayan Temple, offering a beautiful blend of medieval art, culture, and architecture. The journey concludes on Day 11 with your final departure, taking home memories of rugged landscapes, rich traditions, and Himalayan majesty.
Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel. Free time to relax and explore the vibrant streets of Thamel. In the evening, trip briefing and permit preparations.
Take a scenic flight to Ghunsa via Suketar. Enjoy incredible views of Makalu and other Himalayan peaks. Settle into the high-altitude Sherpa village.
Spend the day acclimatizing and exploring Ghunsa. Visit the 500-year-old Tashichhoeling Monastery and the Tibetan village of Phale, known for yak wool carpet weaving.
Trek alongside the Ghunsa River through alpine terrain to Kambachen. Enjoy views of snow-capped peaks, yak herds, and glacial valleys.
Follow the Kanchenjunga Glacier to the breathtaking meadow of Lhonak, surrounded by towering mountains and grazing blue sheep.
Trek to the North Base Camp of Kanchenjunga for jaw-dropping views of the Kanchenjunga massif and Pyramid Peak. Overnight near base camp.
Retrace your steps back to Lhonak. Enjoy your final night of camping in the heart of the mountains with majestic scenery.
Trek back to Ghunsa and take a helicopter flight to Kathmandu, soaking in final views of the Himalayas.
You’ll board a 2.5-hour return flight to Kathmandu, flying along the stunning Himalayan foothills. This flight offers another chance to admire the majestic Makalu, the 7th highest mountain in the world, standing tall among the peaks. After a final glimpse of these impressive giants, we’ll land back in Kathmandu, ready to unwind and relax at the hotel, cherishing memories from our incredible journey.
