Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Paro – Explore Paro Dzong and Town Stroll

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel. After some rest, start your journey by visiting the Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong), an impressive fortress that offers insight into Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage. Afterward, enjoy a leisurely stroll through Paro town, exploring local markets, handicrafts, and cafés. Overnight stay in a hotel in Paro.

Day 2Begin Trek from Paro to Shana

Begin your trek from Paro, heading toward Shana. The trail winds through scenic forested paths, where you will pass tall pine, oak, and rhododendron trees. Along the way, enjoy the serenity of the Paro River as you follow its course. Camp near the river, surrounded by nature. Overnight in camp near Shana.

Day 3Trek to Thangthangka – First Views of Mt. Jomolhari

Continue your trek from Shana to Thangthangka, where the landscape opens up to reveal beautiful meadows and lush forests. As you trek, you’ll begin to catch your first breathtaking views of the sacred Mt. Jomolhari (7,314m), one of the most stunning peaks in Bhutan. Arrive at your campsite by late afternoon, set in the heart of nature. Overnight in camp near Thangthangka.

Day 4Trek to Jangothang – Jomolhari Basecamp

Today’s trek takes you to Jangothang, also known as Jomolhari Basecamp. The trail leads through yak herder settlements and alpine meadows, with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. As you ascend, the altitude becomes higher, so take it slow and enjoy the pristine beauty of the Bhutanese highlands. Once at basecamp, relax and acclimatize to the high altitude. Overnight in camp at Jangothang.

Day 5-6Exploration Days at Jangothang (Jomolhari Basecamp)

Spend two full days at Jangothang, allowing your body to adjust to the higher altitude. Use this time to explore the surrounding glaciers, ridges, and sacred lakes. You can take short hikes to nearby viewpoints, which offer incredible vistas of Jomolhari and Jichu Drake (6,989m). These two days provide both physical rest and ample opportunity for photography and relaxation in this serene environment. Overnight in camp at Jangothang.

Day 7Cross Nyile La Pass (4,890m) – Descend into Lingshi Village

Today, you’ll face the challenge of crossing the Nyile La Pass at 4,890 meters. The ascent is steep but rewarding, with stunning views of the Himalayan range. Once at the top, enjoy a break while taking in the panoramic vistas. After crossing the pass, descend into the remote village of Lingshi, where you’ll be greeted with views of Lingshi Dzong and its surrounding landscapes. Overnight in camp near Lingshi.

Day 8-12Trek Through High-Altitude Passes and Glacial Valleys to Laya

Over the next few days, continue trekking through high-altitude landscapes, passing through pristine glacial valleys, high mountain passes, and small remote villages. Along the way, experience the untouched beauty of the Bhutanese wilderness, and interact with nomadic yak herders who call these highlands home. As you approach Laya, you’ll begin to see the distinct Layap culture and architecture. Upon arrival in Laya, enjoy a well-deserved rest and immerse yourself in the unique lifestyle of the Layap people. Overnight in camp in Laya.

Day 13-16Trek into the Isolated Lunana Region

Your adventure continues as you trek into the Lunana region, one of the most isolated and remote areas in Bhutan. This leg of the journey will take you through challenging high-altitude passes, deep glacial valleys, and pristine alpine meadows. The Lunana region is known for its nomadic settlements and breathtaking landscapes, with snow-capped mountains forming the backdrop of your trek. Along the way, you’ll encounter traditional Bhutanese yak herder camps and experience the raw, untouched beauty of Bhutan’s wilderness. Overnight in camp in the Lunana region.

Day 17-20Cross Rinchenzoe Pass (5,322m) – Glacial Lakes and High Ridges

Over the next few days, prepare for one of the most physically demanding yet exhilarating parts of the trek. You will cross the Rinchenzoe Pass, standing at a height of 5,322 meters, offering you spectacular views of the Himalayan range and glacial lakes below. As you traverse the high ridges and rugged mountain terrain, you’ll be rewarded with some of the most awe-inspiring sights of the trek. Descend through alpine meadows dotted with glacial streams, eventually reaching lower altitudes. Overnight in camp in the high-altitude wilderness.

Day 21-23Descend into Bumthang – Spiritual Sites and Monasteries

After crossing the high passes, begin your descent into the lush and spiritually rich Bumthang Valley. This area is known for its centuries-old monasteries and sacred sites that are closely tied to Bhutan’s religious history. Visit iconic sites like Kurjey Lhakhang and Tamshing Monastery, gaining insight into the spiritual heart of Bhutan. The valley offers a welcome change in climate, with its fertile farmlands and warm, pleasant air. Overnight in camp in Bumthang Valley.

Day 24Rest and Cultural Sightseeing in Bumthang

After weeks of trekking through Bhutan’s rugged mountains, enjoy a relaxing day of cultural exploration in Bumthang. Visit the impressive Jakar Dzong, an ancient fortress that overlooks the valley, and take some time to explore local temples and the charming markets of Bumthang. In the evening, unwind in your guesthouse and enjoy a traditional Bhutanese meal. Overnight in a guesthouse in Bumthang.

Day 25Return to Paro by Road – Farewell Dinner

Your epic trek comes to an end as you take a scenic drive back to Paro, passing through beautiful landscapes and traditional Bhutanese villages along the way. Once in Paro, enjoy a farewell dinner with your guide and fellow trekkers, reflecting on the unforgettable journey through Bhutan’s highlands. The following morning, you will be transferred to Paro International Airport for your departure. Overnight in a hotel in Paro.
