This 11-day Tibetan adventure offers a rich blend of cultural exploration, high-altitude trekking, and stunning natural landscapes. Starting in Lhasa, you’ll have the opportunity to visit iconic landmarks such as the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Sera Monastery, immersing yourself in Tibetan Buddhism and history. The vibrant markets and ancient palaces of Lhasa give way to the tranquil beauty of the Tibetan countryside as you begin your trek around Nam Tso Lake, one of Tibet’s holiest and most scenic sites. With snow-capped mountains and deep blue waters, the journey provides both spiritual and natural beauty in equal measure.

After completing the trek around Nam Tso, the itinerary continues with visits to Tibet’s historic towns like Gyantse and Shigatse, where you’ll explore sacred monasteries, including the famous Tashilhunpo and Sakya Monasteries. The scenic drives take you across stunning mountain passes, past crystal-clear lakes, and through the remote valleys of the Tibetan Plateau. The adventure concludes with a journey to the Nepal border, crossing into Kathmandu, leaving you with a deep appreciation for Tibet’s unique culture, spiritual heritage, and awe-inspiring landscapes.

Itinerary

Day 1Fly to Lhasa

Your journey begins with a flight to Lhasa, where our guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Take the day to rest and acclimatize to the high altitude of this spiritual city, located at 3,650 meters. The initial day is important for adjusting to the thin air, so relax and enjoy the quiet pace of Lhasa. Overnight at a hotel, preparing for the sightseeing adventures ahead.

Day 2Sightseeing in Lhasa

Today, you’ll explore Lhasa’s most iconic landmarks. The first stop is Potala Palace, the former winter residence of the Dalai Lama and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Afterward, visit Sera Monastery, famous for its lively monk debates. In the afternoon, explore Norbulingka Palace, once the Dalai Lama’s summer retreat. This day offers an immersive introduction to Tibetan culture and history, with the majestic Potala Palace as the highlight. Return to your hotel in the evening.

Day 3Sightseeing in Lhasa

On the second day of sightseeing, you’ll visit Jokhang Temple, the spiritual heart of Tibet and an important pilgrimage site. Afterward, head to Drepung Monastery, once the largest monastery in Tibet and home to thousands of monks. Complete your day with a stroll through the bustling Barkhor Market, where you can shop for traditional Tibetan crafts, prayer flags, and other souvenirs. This vibrant market offers a glimpse into the daily life of Tibetan people.

Day 4Drive to Damxung and Start Trekking

In the morning, drive from Lhasa to Damxung, a small town that serves as the starting point of your trekking adventure. After arriving in Damxung, begin your trek towards the stunning Nam Tso Lake. The trek leads you through beautiful Tibetan landscapes, with rolling hills and snow-capped peaks in the distance. The first night will be spent camping under the stars by the shores of Nam Tso, one of Tibet’s most sacred lakes.

Day 5Trekking Around Nam Tso

Spend the day trekking around the pristine Nam Tso Lake, known for its deep blue waters and spectacular mountain backdrop. As you walk along the lake’s shores, take in the serene beauty of this high-altitude paradise. The surrounding grasslands are often dotted with nomadic herders and their yak caravans, offering a glimpse into traditional Tibetan life. Camp overnight near the lake, enjoying the peaceful solitude of the region under a star-filled sky.

Day 6Trek Back to Nagenla Pass and Drive to Lhasa

Begin the day with a trek back to Nagenla Pass, where you’ll meet your vehicle for the drive back to Lhasa. The pass offers stunning panoramic views of Nam Tso and the surrounding mountains. After completing the trek, relax during the scenic drive back to Lhasa, where you’ll have the rest of the evening to rest and enjoy the comforts of the city. Overnight at a hotel in Lhasa, preparing for the next leg of the journey.

Day 7Lhasa to Gyantse

Today, drive from Lhasa to Gyantse, a charming town known for its well-preserved Tibetan culture. The drive takes you through breathtaking landscapes, including the shimmering Yamdrok Lake and the towering Karola Glacier. Upon arrival in Gyantse, visit the Gyantse Kumbum, a stunning multi-tiered stupa filled with chapels and murals. This is a highlight of Tibetan Buddhist architecture. Spend the night in a local hotel in Gyantse, soaking in the town’s peaceful atmosphere.

Day 8Gyantse to Shigatse

After breakfast, drive to Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city and home to the Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama. Upon arrival, explore the monastery’s vast complex, which houses giant statues of Buddha and beautifully decorated prayer halls. Shigatse offers a unique blend of traditional Tibetan culture and modern development. Spend the night in a local hotel, preparing for the journey to Lhatse the following day.

Day 9Shigatse to Lhatse via Sakya Monastery

Today’s drive takes you from Shigatse to Lhatse, with a stop to visit the famous Sakya Monastery. This ancient monastery, known for its distinctive grey walls, is a major center of Tibetan Buddhism and holds a vast collection of sacred scriptures and artifacts. After exploring Sakya, continue your drive to Lhatse, a small town located at the crossroads of major trade routes. Overnight in a local hotel in Lhatse, resting before the drive to Nyalam.

Day 10Lhatse to Nyalam

Depart Lhatse for Nyalam, a small town near the Nepal border. The drive takes you through the high-altitude Tibetan Plateau, with stunning views of snow-capped peaks and wide-open plains. Nyalam, often referred to as the “Gateway to Tibet,” is surrounded by towering mountains and offers a unique perspective on the transition between Tibet and Nepal. Spend the night in Nyalam, preparing for the final leg of your journey back to Nepal.

Day 11Nyalam to Zhangmu, then Drive Back to Kathmandu

On the last day of your journey, drive from Nyalam to Zhangmu, where you’ll clear Chinese customs before crossing the Friendship Bridge back into Nepal. Once in Nepal, you’ll be transferred to Kathmandu for the conclusion of your trip. The drive back to Kathmandu takes you through lush valleys and picturesque mountain scenery. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, your tour officially ends, leaving you with unforgettable memories of your Tibetan adventure.
