Start the trek from Yuksom at an altitude of 5,643 feet, heading towards Tshoka, which sits at 9,700 feet. The trail takes you through dense forests of rhododendrons and magnolias, with occasional wooden bridges crossing over streams. After about 6 to 7 hours of trekking, you’ll reach Tshoka, a small village that offers magnificent views of the mountains. Rest overnight at a local campsite or tea house.
The trail becomes steeper as you trek through more forests of rhododendrons and fir trees. Pass by Phedang, a popular rest spot, before continuing the ascent to Dzongri at 13,700 feet. The climb is demanding, but the expansive views of the Kanchenjunga range are your reward. Upon arrival at Dzongri, set up camp or stay at a trekkers’ hut, and prepare for the next day’s adventures.
Rise early for a short hike to Dzongri Top, where you’ll be greeted with a spectacular sunrise over the snow-capped peaks of the Kanchenjunga and surrounding mountains. After soaking in the views, descend back to Tshoka via the same trail. The day’s trek will take you through familiar yet beautiful landscapes, ending back at Tshoka for your final night camping under the stars.
